“Our Love” by Monica Bonvicini is the latest edition, conceived especially for Leap Art Foundation. The work consists of a 60 × 60 cm square mirror pane 6 mm mirror made of white glass with polished edges in a range of pink color. Into the wet silkscreened paint the artist streaked with a hand gesture making each work a unique piece. The edition represents a larger body of work by Bonvicini, where mirrors are stencil-sprayed or silkscreen-printed with phrases coming from literature mostly by female writers, music, and works of philosophy. The selected excerpts touch upon topics of gender, relations, desire, physicality, and space. For “Our Love” Bonvicini translated a phrase into English by the poet Patrizia Cavalli. The lettering is deliberately compressed, making the phrases hard to read at first glance, thus encouraging the viewer to linger and spend a longer time in front of the work.

Monica Bonvicini
Monica Bonvicini’s artistic practice explores the relationship between architecture, power, gender, and the ways in which we experience space. Her works often combine text with industrial materials to examine social structures, desire, and identity, encouraging viewers to question the environments they inhabit. Dry-humored, direct, and imbued with historical, political and social references, Bonvicini’s multifaceted art encompasses installations, sculptures, public projects, video, sound, drawing, and more. Her approach has evolved formally over the years without betraying its analytical force and inclination to challenge the viewer’s perspective while taking hefty sideswipes at patriarchal and socio-cultural conventions. Alongside her artistic career, Bonvicini is a scholar of sculpture and installation and has been invited to lecture at major international institutions. Her work has been exhibited at numerous prominent biennials, as well as in solo and group exhibitions at leading museums worldwide. Her artistic practice has been recognized with numerous awards and includes several large-scale works permanently installed in public spaces and institutions.
